CASE STUDY

Google Earth Christmas Island Streetview | Christmas Island

The Google Street View Trekker was on site to capture one of natures great moments, the endemic red crab migration on Christmas Island, a remote Australian territory. Google partnered with AAP to film and photograph the Street View Trekker in action.

The volume of crabs, up to 45 million, presented unprecedented challenges for the team as the crabs crowded boardwalks, beaches and roads, requiring extreme care. After two days of filming, AAP's videographer edited the video on site with a tight turnaround time for Google to use in their global press release.

Our videographer delivered cinematic shots of the crabs, sites on the island and interviewed key spokespeople from Parks Australia. The content generated awareness among the public of this incredible natural occurrence and increased tourism to the area.
